home styling

Scarlett J Designs is a a boutique Sarasota interior design studio delivering elevated interiors, bold brand styling, and curated special events for busy professionals and families who want impact without the overwhelm.

If you’ve ever scrolled Pinterest and thought “Why doesn’t my house look like that?” — I’ve got you. Styling your home doesn’t mean filling it with stuff. It’s about layering smart, editing often, and letting every piece earn its place. Here’s how to do it like a pro stylist:

1️⃣ Clear the Chaos — Then Curate

First rule of styling: clutter is the enemy. Start with a ruthless edit — remove anything that’s broken, outdated, or just plain annoying. Then bring back only what you truly love. If it doesn’t make you say “yep, that’s perfect,” it goes.

Scar J Tip: Box up your maybe-pile. If you don’t miss it in 30 days, donate it.

2️⃣ Layer with Purpose

Layers add warmth — clutter just adds noise. Use textiles, books, trays, and small décor in intentional groups. A layered coffee table might have a stack of books, a candle, and a small vase — not 47 coasters and old mail.

Scar J Tip: Odd numbers win. Style in groups of 3 or 5 for that “magazine look.”

3️⃣ Play with Texture, Not Trinkets

If you want your space to feel rich and interesting, think texture instead of more stuff. Mix wood, metal, glass, stone, and soft textiles. Same color palette, different textures = designer-level vibes.

Scar J Tip: Neutrals don’t have to be boring when you layer in linen, velvet, rattan, or leather.

4️⃣ Give Every Zone Breathing Room

This tip is for you, hoarders – empty space is not wasted space — it’s what makes your good pieces pop. If every shelf is packed, your eyes don’t know where to land. Edit your surfaces and walls so every corner feels intentional, not accidental.

Scar J Tip: If you’re styling a shelf, leave 25% of it empty. Trust me.

5️⃣ Rotate Seasonally (But Keep It Simple)

Instead of hoarding décor for every holiday, create a small capsule of seasonal touches you actually love — a cozy throw in fall, fresh flowers in spring. Swap, store, repeat. You get a fresh vibe without the storage room meltdown.

Scar J Tip: One big statement per season beats a million tiny knick-knacks.

One Last Thing: Less Really Is More

You don’t need to fill every wall or corner. A beautifully layered home feels warm, personal, and intentional — never cluttered. Keep editing, keep curating, and let your home breathe.
